Step-by-Step Setup Guide

Step 1: Add Custom Domain in QRBolt

  1. Log into your QRBolt account
  2. Navigate to Settings → Custom Domains
  3. Click "Add Custom Domain"
  4. Enter your desired subdomain (e.g., qr)
  5. Enter your domain (e.g., yourdomain.com)
  6. QRBolt will generate a verification record for you

Step 2: Configure DNS Records

You'll need to add a CNAME record to your DNS settings. The exact steps vary by provider, but the general process is:

  1. Log into your DNS provider's control panel
  2. Navigate to DNS management or DNS settings
  3. Add a new CNAME record with these values:
Type:
CNAME
Name/Host:
qr
Value/Target:
vanity.qrbolt.com

Step 3: Verify Domain

  1. Return to QRBolt and click "Verify Domain"
  2. Wait for DNS propagation (can take up to 48 hours)
  3. Once verified, your custom domain will be active

DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours to propagate worldwide. Be patient if verification doesn't work immediately.

GoDaddy

  1. Log into your GoDaddy account
  2. Go to "My Products" → "All Products and Services"
  3. Find your domain and click "DNS"
  4. Click "Add" in the Records section
  5. Select "CNAME" from the Type dropdown
  6. Enter qr in the "Host" field
  7. Enter vanity.qrbolt.com in the "Points to" field
  8. Set TTL to 600 (10 minutes) or leave default
  9. Click "Save"

Namecheap

  1. Log into your Namecheap account
  2. Go to "Domain List" and click "Manage" next to your domain
  3. Click on the "Advanced DNS" tab
  4. Click "Add New Record"
  5. Select "CNAME Record" from the Type dropdown
  6. Enter qr in the "Host" field
  7. Enter vanity.qrbolt.com in the "Value" field
  8. Set TTL to "Automatic" or 300 (5 minutes)
  9. Click the checkmark to save

Cloudflare

  1. Log into your Cloudflare dashboard
  2. Select your domain from the list
  3. Go to the "DNS" tab
  4. Click "Add record"
  5. Select "CNAME" as the record type
  6. Enter qr in the "Name" field
  7. Enter vanity.qrbolt.com in the "Target" field
  8. Set TTL to "Auto" or 300
  9. Click "Save"

Google Domains

  1. Log into your Google Domains account
  2. Click on your domain name
  3. Go to "DNS" in the left sidebar
  4. Scroll down to "Custom resource records"
  5. Click "Add custom record"
  6. Select "CNAME" from the dropdown
  7. Enter qr in the "Name" field
  8. Enter vanity.qrbolt.com in the "Data" field
  9. Set TTL to 300 (5 minutes)
  10. Click "Add"

Troubleshooting

Domain verification fails

  • Double-check the CNAME record values
  • Ensure there are no typos in the domain name
  • Wait longer for DNS propagation (up to 48 hours)
  • Clear your browser cache and try again

Custom domain not working

  • Verify the CNAME record is active in your DNS panel
  • Check that the record points to the correct target
  • Ensure you have an active QRBolt account
