Understanding short codes and custom slugs for your QR codes
QRBolt supports two different URL formats for your QR codes
When you create a QR code in QRBolt, the system generates a URL that will be encoded in your QR code. This URL is what users will be directed to when they scan your QR code. QRBolt offers two different formats for these URLs:
Example: https://qrbolt.com/Yq2HX6T7
Example: https://yourdomain.com/summer-promo
Guidelines for selecting between short codes and custom slugs
| Use Case | Recommended Format | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Standard QR codes for digital scanning | Short Code | More compact QR code, easier to scan |
| Marketing campaigns with printed URLs | Custom Slug | More memorable, can be typed manually |
| Business cards | Custom Slug | More professional appearance |
| Product packaging | Short Code | Smaller QR code fits better on packaging |
| TV/billboard advertisements | Custom Slug | Easier to remember if QR code can't be scanned immediately |
| Internal/private use | Short Code | Added security through obscurity |
