WiFi QR Codes

Learn how WiFi QR codes work and understand their unique characteristics.

What are WiFi QR Codes?

WiFi QR codes are special QR codes that contain your WiFi network information directly. When someone scans them with their mobile device's camera, they can automatically connect to your WiFi network without manually entering the network name and password.

How it works:

  1. User scans the QR code with their phone's camera
  2. Phone recognizes the WiFi format and shows a connection prompt
  3. User taps "Connect" to join the network automatically

Static vs Dynamic QR Codes

Dynamic QR Codes (URL/Phone)

  • • Redirect through QRbolt servers
  • • Can be updated anytime
  • • Support landing pages and analytics
  • • Can be password protected
  • • Changes take effect immediately

Static QR Codes (WiFi)

  • • Contain network details directly
  • • Cannot be updated after creation
  • • No landing pages or analytics
  • • Cannot be password protected
  • • Changes require reprinting

When to Use WiFi QR Codes

✅ Good for:

  • Guest WiFi networks
  • Office reception areas
  • Restaurants and cafes
  • Events and conferences
  • Stable network configurations

❌ Not ideal for:

  • Frequently changing passwords
  • Networks requiring analytics
  • Password-protected access
  • Networks with dynamic IPs

Best Practices

Print Quality

Ensure high-quality printing for better scanning reliability. Use at least 2x2 inches (5x5 cm) for optimal results.

Network Stability

Only create WiFi QR codes for networks with stable configurations. Avoid creating them for temporary or frequently changing networks.

Security Considerations

Be cautious about where you place WiFi QR codes. Anyone with access to the QR code can connect to your network.

Technical Details

WiFi QR codes use the standard WiFi connection string format that mobile devices recognize:

WIFI:T:WPA;S:NetworkName;P:Password;H:false;;

T: Security type (WPA, WEP, or nopass)

S: Network name (SSID)

P: Password (if required)

H: Hidden network (true/false)
